How do I get from Budapest Airport to my hotel?
There are three options to get into town from the airport:
Taxi
You can have a driver waiting at arrivals for you with your name on a card if you book in advance by phone or email with our Conference Sponsor City Taxi (+36 1 2111 111). See details of how to do this on our conference blog:
https://budapestlal.toastmasters.hu/city-taxi-our-conference-sponsor/
From 1 September 2013 a new Taxi Decree was introduced in Hungary regulating the price of the taxis at a fixed tariff of 280 HUF/Km (0.95 EUR/Km) in addition to the one-off basic fee of 450 HUF (1.50 EUR) and waiting fee. A ride to the city center should typically cost around 6500 HUF (22 EUR) depending on traffic conditions.
This is an 8 or 9 seater shared minibus. Cost is about 11 Euro per person one way, 19 Euro per person return.
You can book it at a booth in the arrivals area after you exit customs.
It takes about 40 minutes each way but you have to wait longer for bus to leave the airport as you may have to share with others.
If there are 2 or more of you, it is better value and faster to get a taxi instead!

Public transport
This is a two stage journey (bus 20 mins and then metro 25 mins) taking around 45 minutes.
From 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., bus number 200E commutes (15 minute journey) between Airport Terminal 2 and the Kőbánya-Kispest Metro terminal (metro line M3).
From there get the metro downtown (another 20 mins) to the Central Stations of Kalvin Ter, Ferenciek Ter or Deak Ter, depending on which one is nearest your hotel. ‘Ter’ means Square in Hungarian.
If you are going straight to the conference venue at Muzeum Korut 4, get off at Ferenciek Ter and walk east from there to Astoria (200 metres).
Here is a Google Maps description of the route from the airport to the conference venue: http://bit.ly/170bsQJ
This costs about 2.50 Euro in total for 2 transport tickets (one for the bus and one for the metro) which you can buy at the airport newsagent (called Relay).
BE SURE YOU VALIDATE YOUR TICKET ON THE BUS AND BEFORE YOU GET ON THE METRO OR YOU WILL BE FINED 50 EURO IF YOU ARE CHECKED!
